At CityLets, we belive in doing our utmost to protect the environment and we have made it our policy to recommend environmentally friendly products in order to reduce energy consumption and hence costs for instance:-

Put in shower units instead of bath tubs as they use less water and less energy for heating the water. An ageing central heating system with a water tank is less economic and more expensive to run and much of the power is wasted on heating water not used.

In addition, we make Landlords aware of current regulations such as:-

Installing condensed boilers, which are more energy efficient. Replacing windows with K glass.

We assist Landlords with any government grant schemes, which may be available to their tenants for insulation works to their property.

Where properties have gardens we recommend that Landlords keep the design and layout simple as possible to reduce the burden of using powered tools and excess water to maintain the garden/s.

Presently we are working with landlords to consider ergonomically designed layouts of household appliances that will help reduce the need for energy consumption. For instance, an electric shower unit with a flexed shower head that will reach the sink will supply hot water without the need for gas.

Tenants can help themselves by:

• Fitting draft excluders to windows and doors where possible in the property so heat does not escape from the property.
• Do not leave on lights in rooms which are not being used.
• Turn down the heating by a few degrees on the central heating.
• Wear extra clothing during cold months.
• Close all internal doors to trap heat in.
• Use energy efficient light bulbs.
• Do not leave TV appliances on standby when not being used.
• Recycle all household waste where possible.
• Only boil the required amount of water when using the kettle.

By recommending these simple procedures to our landlords and tenants, we are making them all aware of ways they can help the environment and reduce energy costs.
